Robin Buddy ~ We're Empty Nesters ....

They are all gone now, out into the big world to fend for themselves.

Now, I can finally get the deck hosed down and the swing brought out to its summer location ………

Robbin Buddy ~ One out two to go ….

Looking out on the deck this morning, I noticed one of our little ones had vacated the nest. He (or she), sat for longest time taking the panoramic view. Having spent the last couple of weeks under the deck, I wondered what was going on in his (or her) head, seeing for the first time, the trees, the house, the grass, the sky, the sun, feeling the wind and observing all the other local wildlife and morning visitors.

Soon after taking it all in, the little one flew off towards the forest, tried to land on a tree branch, but failed and fell off, then crashed through the lower branches and landed hard on the grass. He (or she) quickly recovered and went for a wander instead …

Now it is down to two in the nest ……………

Who will leave next ...?

Robin Buddy ~ Not too long now …

I reckon, it will not be too long now before the little ones take flight. They must be about twelve days old now and growing very fast. When space in the nest allows, they each try flapping (or testing) their wings.

Robin Buddy ~ This nest is too small, move over a little ….

Up until a couple of days ago, mother Robin would comfortably share the nest with the three young ones, I suppose in an effort to keep them warm. But now there is hardly enough space for the youngsters, they are almost hanging over the edge.

While mum and dad Robin are kept really busy with the catering service, out front it is self-service for the humming birds.

Robin Buddy ~ Everybody is really hungry and getting bigger …

It is very busy around here just now, mum and dad are making regular trips to the nest to keep the young and growing ones fed.

Meanwhile Rabbit Buddy is wondering what all the fuse is about …

Robin Buddy ~ Feeding Time …

All three are now hatched and mother is doing her regular feeds of what looks like lovely juicy worms.

I have read on the inter-web, that the little ones will probably leave home at some time between 13 and 16 days. Shortly after that, we may see a second clutch …

Robin Buddy ~ 2 out of 3 (So far)

I noticed a little more activity at the nest this morning, the reason ~ two of the three eggs have now hatched. I suspect the little ones arrived early today or late yesterday.

Is it a Haar …?

While out for a beach wander in absolutely beautiful weather, I saw again what I think may have been a Haar.
Most commonly found in coastal Britain, a Haar or Sea Fret is a cold sea fog. In my past I have seen them in the Highlands of Scotland, it occurs when warmer moist air moves over the cooler sea causing the moisture in the air to condense.

Robin Buddy ~ Waiting

It has been a frantic couple of weeks for a pair of local Robins’. They have hurriedly built a nest under the deck in the backyard; but this was not their first choice. Unknown to us for a long time, they had secretly constructed a nest in the garage on top of the garage opener electric motor. It was only when I noticed a Robin flying in and out that I found the completed nest.

Knowing this location was not practical for the nest or its future occupants, I reluctantly had to remove it. I left the nest at the front of garage, where the Robins cleverly used some of the material for the next location under the deck.
The new location took a huge amount of work for them, as can been seen in the following photos, initially most of the material fell on the ground, I had not seen any of the same during the garage nest construction. But with much persistent determination the job got done.

Now I am happy to report that we have three beautiful eggs and a 24/7 guard.
