The first nor'easter

Today was the first experience of a Nor'easter (For the uneducated that would be a North Easter). From the inter-web, I read that is it described as ~ a macro-scale cyclone. It thrives on converging air masses, today it was cold polar air combining with the warmer air from over the ocean. Generally a Nor’easter is more severe in winter when the difference in temperature between these air masses is greater.

The experience was awesome and exciting, high winds combined with an extremely aggressive snowfall, truly incredible. I only once before experienced so much snow and high winds, that was a few years ago when I narrowly escaped being trapped with hundreds at the top of a mountainous area named Glenshee in Scotland.
The Snow Blower ~ “The Beast” was out for what (so far) was its biggest challenge. With vigor and determination it took on the morning snowfall of about 2½ feet. It performed very well using what I thought was an excessive amount of fuel, about half a gallon.

The power went out in the house, which in our case has the additional inconvenience of no water. So with the woodstove loaded up, candles lit and positively no flushing, we prepared for the long haul. Fortunately after about six hours NS Power got us going again, a huge relief.
As I post this, the wind remains high and the snow is still falling, it is forecasted to continue tomorrow.
