Just get out and embrace it ….

Even after 31 years in Canada which included 28 in Ontario, this Scotsman is still having his annual issues with snow and crazy low temperatures during the month of March. Currently where I came from in the West of Scotland, the daffodils and spring flowers are out providing colour everywhere, the grass is as green as it always is and the temperatures I am sure are definitely above freezing. I am not at all sure how long it will take for me to feel that snow and ice in March is perfectly normal, perhaps never.

On the upside, I have been assured by a few of the locals that this year has been much colder than normal, which is certainly the case when compared to my first two winters in the South Shore.
For me, it is best to just get out and embrace the beauty that has come with this month’s unique winter conditions in this wonderful location.

Below are a few pictures from this weekend’s visits to Hirtle Beach, Rissers Beach and the LaHave Islands.

On the way back today from the Islands, we stopped at the LaHave Bakery (see ~ https://southshoretidewatch.blogspot.com/2017/01/the-bakery.html) for a very satisfying coffee and amazing homemade cookies. It was nice to sit there and overhear three lobster fishermen talk about their fishing techniques and experiences, another little piece of the perfect culture that is the South Shore.

Now that we are entering ……

…….. what seems like the fourth year of this winter, some serious snow has come by which will test us and the snow clearing equipment.

During mid-January, I did the blog “Ready for Action ……” ~ https://southshoretidewatch.blogspot.com/2019/01/waiting-for-action.html
At that time, I sincerely thought that we would probably escape any significant winter weather. I now bow to those folks who reminded me that winter is never over in mid-January …..

Ice with that ...?

On this beautiful bright and warm (in places) day, it was off for a wander on Crescent Beach and George Island. Like most other areas of the country this winter, we too are in the midst of our own period of never ending cold temperatures. This has resulted in an attractive array of ice shapes and build-up with the incoming tide.

Frozen Ponds

Encouraged by this morning’s bright and wonderful conditions, I drove to Green Bay for a hike along the shore. With the tide low and the sun providing a comfortable warmth, I wandered to Beartrap Cove, which for the locals is just a hop, skip and jump from Broad Cove off Hwy 331.

Along the shore just behind the numerous little beaches and rocks are a series of fresh water ponds, which due to our recent cold weather are all frozen.
On the way back to Green Bay I stopped for a break at a nice little sun trap to watch the incoming tide splash over some rocks.
