Always a great hike …

With another very warm day promised by the weather network, I decided to go for my first hike of the year to Gaff Point. Usually I have done this hike well before October, but it has been delayed due to a rather busy summer, then the trail was closed for a few weeks due to the extremely dry conditions and the fear of forest fires.

The timing of the tide for the visit was perfect, with me starting the Hirtles Beach part of the hike, two hours after high tide, and my return along the beach an hour after low tide. I say “perfect”, because the walk along the beach in both directions today was on sand and not the higher level of stones and pebbles, which have to be used at higher tides.

The day started out warm and overcast, but as you will see from the pics, it appeared that someone later flicked a switch, which brought the sun out and moved the clouds away.

I always enjoy Gaff Point, it has everything in one hike that I love about living here in Lunenburg County, although a place to buy fish & chips half way around the hike could possibly be an idea …!!!

Today's pics in the order they were taken ...

  1. We didn't get our annual Gaff Pt hike in this summer either. It's almost first thing on the agenda when I get back from Mom's. Great pics (as always) and FYI, the Rose Bay store and bistro does a half decent fish n' chips. Not totally traditional, and you'd have to indulge either before or after your hike, not at the mid-way point, but it's an option. Cheers ;)
